Rideau Canal in Ottawa is a canal which connects Ottawa with other city, Kingston. Rideau Canal in Ottawa is always busy throughout the year. Whether it is Spring, Summer, Fall or even Winter. There will be lots of activities following the seasons. While the Ottawa River itself is a river as well as a border between Ontario and Quebec Province. Many people do canoeing, and other water activities during summer, spring and Fall seasons. People could park their boats along Rideau Canal, nearby the locks. While in winter, Rideau Canal in Ottawa becomes the largest ice skating "rink" in Canada.
Rideau Canal in Ottawa:
This spot of Rideau Canal is my favorite spot. Along the canal, we could take a walk and dine too. They have some small restaurants where we can sit and enjoy the scenery of Rideau Canal. There are some beautiful hotels nearby such as: Fairmont Chateau Laurier, Marriott Hotel, Westin Hotel and many more.During Canada Day, the canal usually is very crowded with boats, including the attractive Rideau Canal Cruise. If the weather is nice, people used to walk and sit along the green area along the canal. There are some hotdog booths as well. The hotel which has the best view of the canal is Westin Hotel and Fairmont Chateau Laurier. If you are staying in Westin Hotel, you will easily get the access to Rideau Center, on of the biggest shopping mall in the capital. Not only the canal, you will be spoiled with the beautiful scenery of downtown Ottawa. If you like paintings, the Art Museum/ National Art Gallery of Canada is only across the canal.
Point of Interest in Ottawa
If you want to enjoy dining and hunting for souvenirs, Byward Market is the right place to see. It's only walking distance from the National Art Gallery. There are many awesome restaurants for culinary experiences too. With beautiful scenery, delicious food and fresh air, visiting Ottawa River and walking along Rideau Canal is worth a visit!
